The African Academy of Sciences (The AAS) and the European Research Council (ERC) are hosting a one-day event to highlight existing, and discuss future, collaboration between Africa and the European Union.

A high-profile European delegation led by ERC President Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon and head of unit from the Directorate General International Cooperation and Development (DEVCO) and Research and Innovation (RTD) will make presentations. The African Academy of Sciences President Felix Dapare Dakora will lead the proceedings with a keynote address by Prof Bourguignon on the impact of the EU-Africa collaboration. The event will bring together AAS fellows, affiliates, grantees, collaborators and partners located in Nairobi and other invited guests. The purpose of the event is to present the contribution of The European Research Council, which is part of the European Union Framework programmes, toward enhancing research at the frontiers of science in Europe and beyond. The opportunities for funding from European Union Framework programme including H2020 and the ERC will be shared at the event.

The Government of Kenya Ministries and bodies: Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Science & Technology, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI) have also been invited to the event and to a closed lunch with the President of the European Research Council and African of the African Academy of Sciences.
